Geek Point

So it turns out that I'm going to have to modify some java code I wrote in order to account for tricksy linguistic things involving stress.

My first thought: "Hee! I get to code!" [bounce bounce bounce]

I think my happiness stems from the ability to get a real result that no one can turn around and say, "Well, that's just wrong." The ideas behind the code may well be wrong and may indeed need fixing in the future - but the code itself is right because it works. End of story.

I wish I knew computer coding. I would love to create a program that would compile syllables together for me in my language creation project. I like to be able to read the new words and see how they look and sound, and I want to be able to see all possible iterations.

It's often so hard to tell the difference between 'coding for research' and 'coding because it can be justified as research-related'. See for instance this selector I wrote yesterday. It's been pretty useful. But did I really just write it because it amused me?
