So, the fabulous ameer_tavakoli is going to be in DC this week, and is being stolen Thursday evening for an unofficial Fun Things To See/Do/Eat mini-tour of the city. Given my sad lack of city knowledge, I am now happily soliciting suggestions for good places with vegetarian-friendly food and amusing things to do on a Thursday evening in DC. Interested company is completely welcome to join, particularly if you know your way around the city better than I do (which, trust me, isn't hard).

When my dad comes to town (and hence I get free dinners), I always search the City Guide for nifty restaurants. The reviews or the restaurants' linked websites give a good idea of the degree of veg-friendliness. A few months ago I found a yummy, swanky place that served...Mexican? Salvadorean? Something Central American. Anyway, it was really good, and near Metro Center. Also, in Georgetown I think it was, is this little hole-in-the-wall vegetarian Chinese place. This was in like 2003, I think, so I don't really remember too well, but it was nice and tasty. So yes. I recommend scouring the Post City Guide. Good way to procrastinate too!

There's Sunflower in Vienna, but I don't have any suggestions for DC proper.

One of the rare times I actually partook of D.C.'s nightlife, the Ethiopian restaurants in Adam's Morgan are quite enjoyable. They also seemed to meet the exacting standards of the vegans & vegetarians I was with, so bully for that. Good coffee too.

There's no better place to look than VegDC.

Some of my favorites from dining with vegetarians are Meskerem for Ethiopian, Sala Thai in Cleveland Park, Malaysia Kopitiam for Malaysian (it's yummy!), Thaiphoon for fashionable Thai, Vegatate is the new hip veggie joint, and Lebanese Taverna is delicious and easy to share.

Late night, try Ben's Chili Bowl for awesome veggie chili.

Heh, it's weird. Your friend Ameer knows somebody I know! Miranda (aka mercfeld) :)

Wow, you know Miranda! It is a ridiculously small world!

I was happily amused to find out that she in turn has friends in Nashville who are friends of friends of mine. :-)

No kidding. One of my best friends, alayna lives in Atlanta, and I met Miranda last summer when I visited her for a couple weeks. She and Miranda have been somewhat on-again/off-again sort of friends, but I currently think the two of them are on good terms.

I'm continually amazed how interconnected the world is!

::laughs::

I'm not sure I would go so far as to say I'm "fabulous" but I would happily say that I'm looking forward to visiting your fair city.

In an effort to keep myself surprised as to what actually happens on Thursday night, I won't lurk on this thread too much, but I thank you all for the recommendations, and most importantly thank jalentrix for being my tour guide for the evening.

So long as I don't wake up with a hangover and a strange tattoo I'll be happy ... and let's face it, if I do wake up with a strange tattoo, I'll still be quite amused. :-)
